A Big Thank You From Steve Henigan at Toyota of Des Moines

Toyota of Des MoinesGet In The Loop!

Referrals = Rewards: Send me the first and last name of potential car shoppers you’ve met (with emails if possible)…if they buy from me directly, I send you $Money$!!!

I offer a $50.00 finders fee for anyone you refer to work with me for their vehicle purchase. Make sure the customers you send let me know that it was you who sent them (& they ask for me when they’re here). I will give them the same quality service that I have tried to afford you. I’d suggest getting my business card, writing your name on it, and passing it along to them so they remember my name. You can have as many as you like ;)

Now, here’s how you can double it…

Question of the Month:

What is the oldest vehicle in human history?

Call or email back with the answer -Or- to get the answer, and I’ll double your next referral this month just for a call to say Hi! (515-559-4222) If you guess the right answer, I’ll double your next TWO referrals!! ($100.00 ea.)** Many have won AND most have collected (four last month alone)…don’t miss out!

A Great Quote:

“A good sweat, with the blood punding through my body, makes me feel alive, revitalized. I gain a sense of mastery and assurance.  I feel good about myself.  Then I can feel good about others.”

What’s New This Month:

It’s warm!!!  Finally some nice weather to get out side and do something fun.

Just celebrated my 8th wedding anniversary and I’m bellsed to have such an amazing wife.  She had me at hello ;)   We are finishing up the final week of my wife’s in-home daycare business.  I’m glad to be stepping away from this and Rachel is ready for the next step in her life.  She’ll be helping me out over the summer and spending some quality time with us (Really looking forward to that!) as well as working on lots of projects she has been waiting for free time to do.

Very excited to be heading to Hawaii next week for the STARS trip I earned through Toyota (I owe a big that you to all my past guests).  Going on a ATV waterfall ride which should be interesting and plan to do some snorkeling (never done that…but have been warned to watch your natural reflex to breath in immediately when you come back to the top :)    We are leaving next Sunday I’ll be back on the 24th should you need to contact me.

Discovered MySpace recently and having fun listening to old songs I have not heard for a long time, and my daughter has built me a Lego desktop organizer that is awesome!  That’s all I have for now….

I’m blessed to be around such great people in my life like yourself and thank you for reading my news letter!

Hope you are having a great May…as always keep in touch.

A Great Quote

What’s New This Month
NO MORE SNOW!!  Holy Moly, Groundhog…you had your laugh.  Glad to see the weather warming up outside and getting that spring fever.

Performing with my band at Hull Ave. Tavern on the 13th if you’d like to join us (you are more than welcome to -:).

Emily’s new cat (Skimmers) is getting along well now.  Lovey doesn’t like getting beat up by a kitten but he does his best to keep his dignity by boasting that he is an outdoor cat and YOU have to stay inside.  Brings his kill to the doorstep to show off…crazy cat.

Got the official OK and we will be moving the dealership to 141 (68 service bays, three car washes, 4 quick lube station and over 20 acres of parking lot!)…should be great for everyone (customers and employees).  Plans say we’ll be there in August but the will do everything in their power to accelerate that to July if they can.  I’m excited to cut the commute down to a short bike ride :)   I can follow the old railroad tracks from near my house clear to the dealership….might have to make that walk in the summer.

My wife is amazing and I love her so.  Girls are getting big.  My oldest told me that when you have to go to the bathroom you make wiser decision….is this really true?!?!

Will be hitting my 7-year anniversary next month at the dealership and I really appreciate your contact over the years. I’m blessed to be around such great people in my life.  Hope you are having a great start to spring and thanks as always for staying in touch with me!!

Until the 70′s(which it will be soon!)…

This one’s for the holiday: How many calories does the average person burn with a one-minute kiss?

26 Calories

A Great Quote

-Alfred Hitchcock

What’s New This Month
Had a great B-day and thanks for all the wishes…kinda scary how many FB friends come out to say hi on that one day of the year.  Pretty cool in my book :)

I’m ready for spring!  Looking forward to getting all this snow off of the ground and doing something with the yard.  Took our girls sledding this weekend in Johnston and had a blast.  My youngest was pretty impressive with the snow board and stayed standing up almost 1/2 of the entire hill.  I tried it belly down and that was plenty for me…man that thing goes fast on the snow!  We used an inflatable tube and a couple other flat/slick boards and traded off to try them all out.  Tube and the snowboard were the best.

Time is flying by and business just keeps getting busier as the year progresses (good sign for the economy).  My wife will be ending her run with the in-home daycare in May and we are ready to make some changes and get out house back into shape.  Love the kids but they are so hard on the house.

It will be a calm summer on the home front and we hope to take time to figure out our next steps.  I’m planning to take the family to Yellowstone in August so any advice there is welcomed.

Well, I think I’m rambling now so I’ll let you go…have a great start to spring and thanks as always for staying in touch with me!!

Until we meet again…

Answer to Last Month’s Question
According to statistics, what are the safest colors of cars?

Yellow and Bright Blue are the safest cars to drive statistically

A Great Quote
“Some people confuse acceptance with apathy, but there’s all the difference in the world.  Apathy fails to distinguish between what can and what cannot be helped; acceptance makes that distinction.  Apathy paralyzes the will-to-action; acceptance frees it by relieving it of impossible burdens.”

What’s New This Month
Praise to the groundhog…an early spring!!  I’m ready to get back outside and enjoy some sunshine.

Had a great time with my family watching the Super Bowl and it was a good game, too.  We were super lazy and just hung out and ate some pizza and wings. Something about a simple day with no worries that I really enjoy.

Ray Murphy was officially named our new GM and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.  He’s been one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked under and you should really see some positive changes in the dealership with him at the ‘helm’.

They have also approved plans to move us out to the big dealership out on 141 in Grimes.  Mitsubishi and KIA are going to take our building on Merle Hay Road.  This will double our space and allow us some much needed growing room.  ETA to move in is tentatively set for September.  I’m excited and our service customers should enjoy the expedited service abilities, too.

I’m playing in a band now (Midnight Matinee) and it is a lot of fun to get in front of people and perform again.  We finally have the songs down and working up new ones all the time.  Never imagined I’d enjoy playing the bass guitar but it has expanding my musical ability already and I’m excited to learn more.

In respect to Valentine’s Day, I’d like to mention that I love my wife and girls.  They are the center of my universe and bring a smile to my face whenever I’m around them.  Love you Rachel, Emily and Raea!!

That’s all I have for this short month and a lot to do before I turn 38 on the 1st….gotta run :)
Until we meet again, enjoy the ones you love and thanks again for being part of my monthly read!

Rob Bierma discusses the positives of sports in kids’ lives

rob-bierma-webAs a dad of young children, I believe in the power of sports to shape kids in a number of ways. Lifelong friends, lifelong habits and lifelong memories can all happen if you encourage interest in an active lifestyle.

We all hear the news about childhood obesity. Studies from the Mayo Clinic show that we can cut the risk of our kids being overweight by letting them walk and run in the back yard or on playgrounds as early as 2 years old. Dancing and playing catch are great activities for kids ages 4 to 6.

And by the time ages 7 to 10 roll around, team sports are a great way for kids to use and improve motor skills and their sense of safety.

But just as important is putting your children in social situations. They can learn teamwork, camaraderie, and of course the old adage that “it’s not whether you win or lose by how you play the game.” What a great rule for a child to learn!

How will you – or more importantly, how will your child – know which sports he or she wants to play? It’s up to us as parents to expose our children to as many of life’s opportunities as possible. Take them to an Iowa Energy basketball game, or to the I-Cubs, or a Des Moines Menace game. What they see may interest and excite them, and you will have started them on a great path to physical and social health.

We’re giving away pairs of tickets to the Feb. 9 Iowa Energy game! It’s Denver Nuggets Night – see the mascot and cheerleaders – and Rotary night – learn more about Rotary’s mission of global polio eradication. Go to our Facebook page and enter to win!

What’s New This Month
Another unseasonably warm month…I like that and that we still pulled out a white Christmas :)

Finished a personal best year and now have achieved ‘Gold Status’ with Toyota finishing 3rd in the KC Region.  I’m very proud of this and couldn’t have done it without your patronage….thank you so much again!!

We have a new General Manager here and thing should be changing for the better at Toyota of Des Moines.  I’m very excited for what will lay ahead for our business here and you should enjoy some the perks too when it is all said and done.  Will take some time but you will see what I mean over the next year or so.

My oldest turned 10 last month (Raea) and is now starting to show signs of adolescence coming on (acne, etc…)….oooh boy here we go.  My babies are growing up so fast and they are so smart (proud daddy).

Anyway…looking forward to a great start to the new year and glad we survived the apocalypse :)  The zombies, etc….don’t seem to bother my neighborhood too bad yet and we are still above the volcanic flood zones (haha).

Hope you’re enjoying your start to 2013.  Until we meet again, enjoy the ones you love and thanks again for being part of my monthly read.  Take care!!

Shane Siegle talks Grammy nominations, Carrie Underwood, surprises

Grammy nominations were announced this week (coincidentally, Carrie Underwood and Hunter Hayes were nominated, and we’re giving away tickets to their Wells Fargo Arena appearance on Friday, Dec. 14; click here for more), and every year, it’s an interesting snapshot of music of the moment.

The Album of the Year, which, according to Wikipedia honors “artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence,” is up for grabs among four bands who aren’t on a large record label and one who is. Does that say more about the “little guy’s” ability to dream big and make things happen?

Song of the Year, which asks that a song meet the same artistic and technical criteria as Album of the Year, includes “Call Me Maybe,” a repetitive pop song by Carly Rae Jepsen that makes tweens and teens go crazy and has become a hit on YouTube, but, let’s just say, probably hasn’t found its foothold with most of the musical elite. This one is a bit of a surprise, and maybe even a long shot.

Best New Artist is always a mixed bag of flashes in the pan, road-worn indie favorites suddenly on the mainstream radar, and some true new talent. Let’s see if Hunter Hayes, who opens for Carrie Underwood on Dec. 14 at Wells Fargo, can capitalize on his CMA Best New Artist win.

The Record of the Year, not to be confused with “album” (the whole thing), is the song (not to be confused with “song,” which is given to the songwriter) that is honored mostly for its production, engineering and mixing. All respect to nominee Taylor Swift, but if the award were based on lyrics, “We-EEEE are never, ever, ever, ever getting back together” might be a hard sell to the Academy.

Who are your favorites? Check out the whole list of nominees here. Be one of the first 10 to e-mail your thoughts to toyotaofdm@gmail.com, and we’ll tell you how you can claim a $15 iTunes gift card! Thanks for reading!

What’s New This Month
What wonderful spring weather we are having (LOL)!  Weird to go outside without even a jacket at times. My 6-year-old wore shorts to school today?!?  Hope we get at least a dusting of snow so we can have a white Christmas.

She loves this time of year and we just got done with all the ‘to dos’:  Stringing lights up outside, decorating the tree, a day shopping for the girls’ gifts, and an evening of wrapping presents.  Now I just need to get me some egg nog and I’ll be set ;)

Had a nice Thanksgiving with my sister in Omaha last month, which was the first in a few years.  Luckily got a couple days in a row off (I know, imagine that ;)

My oldest is turning 10 this week (double digits!).  So proud to be her father, she is such a beautiful, sweet and smart little lady.

I hope you enjoy the Holidays with those close to you.  Nothing is more precious.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your monthly read and staying in touch!   We’ll talk again next month!!

What’s New This Month
Halloween is over and I didn’t throw one egg and did not get one thrown at me. That’s a plus! In addition I have enough candy in my house to live on for the next 6 months worth of calories I think.  If you’d like some, I’d be MORE than happy to donate ;)

T’was a great month with calm weather but time to break out the winter gear I’m thinkin’.  My friends in Nebraska have been posting complaints about snow on FB, so it’s just a matter of time now.

My heart goes out to those suffering from the super storm “Sandy” and I’m glad Toyota decided to donate $1 million to help out.  Hope everyone else follows suit. Saw one guy suggest that the politicians take their campaign money and donate it to the cause instead of sending us all this crap in the media and mail.

Holy smokes! I’ve never seen so much junk mail telling me it’s time to vote.  Stop wasting all the trees!!  Did you forget I’ll vote for the person that is the most green minded?!?  I have a smartphone, radio and TV (not to mention the 3-5 phone calls a day I get from ya’ll)…I get it! And I plan to vote!!!

OK, I’m done….had to get that out.

I’m going to my sister’s this month for Thanksgiving and I’m very excited about that. We don’t get together as much anymore and I miss ’em.  Should be a fun couple of days!!

Thanks for allowing me to be part of your monthly read and touch base again for Santa’s month!

Shane Siegle appreciates bands who give back

Corey Taylor’s hard-rock band, Stone Sour, announced a concert in Taylor’s hometown, right here in Des Moines, for last Sunday at the East Village’s new venue Wooly’s for just $5. The show sold out immediately, so the band announced a second show for last Monday, same venue, same price… same result: an immediate sell-out.

Some folks are fans of hard rock, others aren’t. The same holds true for any genre of music, from punk to rap to country to classical.

But one thing that’s hard to dislike is such loyalty to your hometown.

Stone Sour is promoting its latest album, and for a band that has toured the world, been featured on movie soundtracks, and has an incredibly globally famous offspring in the band Slipknot, it would be easy for a band to forget its roots. Not Stone Sour, and not Corey Taylor.

For a band to give back to its original fanbase by essentially saying, “We’re giving you the entertainment we’ve always given you, and that we’ve given the world, and we’re doing it at a price that says we appreciate you and want you there” is admirable.

At times, the music industry is considered a machine, and the musicians are not the ones in charge of how the machine runs. In this case, it looks like Taylor and Stone Sour are taking the influence they’ve earned and are giving back to the people who support music the most.

What do you love about music, local or elsewhere? Let me know, and I’ll hang onto a $15 iTunes gift card for you here at the dealership. Contact me with your thoughts on cars, music, and more at ssiegle@toyotadm.com, or call (515) 276-4911.

What’s New This Month
A new personal best month in August…thank you all so much for your business! Never imagined to reach this level of success at my job and I’m proud to have met such great people along the way.  Hope this is a promising sign that our economy is one the mend!

My daughters are back to school and we are back to square one trying to get them ‘motivated’ in the AM to want to be on time to school. :)

Went to Niobrara, NE for the holiday weekend (thus the late newsletter :)  Had a great time….had a fire ban out there but the ‘Blue Moon’ made up for that ;)  We floated the river there (Highly recommended!).  They have sand bars everywhere that you can stop and camp out on and the swimming is great!

When we returned home we had discovered that the cat (Lovey) had gotten into my daughter’s room (Raea) and knocked over the mouse cage that had three mice in it. They were all gone and, as you can imagine, she was really upset :(  Found one (or part of one that is) shortly later so we had to deal with her first experience of death…not fun.  Luckily we did find and catch that other two!  That helped her mood quite a bit (pending one funeral this evening).

Got to spend time with an old friend I a couple weeks ago and that was nice.  Saw a picture of his first born (last I saw this kid he was two feet tall).  Now this guy is graduating high school and 6′ 5″?!?!  Man that makes feel the age…LOL!

Anyway….Thank you for allowing me to be part of your monthly read and staying in touch!   We’ll talk again next month!!

What’s New This Month
A personal best month in July…thank you all so much for your business!  Never imagined to reach this level of success at my job and I’m proud to have meet such great people along the way.  You are awesome…thank you!!

Summer is winding down and time to get ready to send the girls back to school. They are getting so big and I’m trying to spend every second I can with them while they still wanna hang out with old dad :)

My youngest this morning made me stay in bed an extra 45min. to snuggle and then insisted on watching a movie (Soul Surfer) with her.  I was not allowed to leave her side and we laughed and played all morning…I love her (sniffle).

My oldest is obsessed with Lego’s and is constantly building some other form of vending machine via LEGO’s like water fountains, candy dispensers, lock boxes…who knew there was so much to learn on YouTube with LEGO building…holy molly!!

They spent the week with my mother last month and got super spoiled (as usual), so now it’s time to do our ‘Summer Detox’…preparing for school by getting back in routine of: going to bed on time, reading books, and getting ready in the morning in a timely manner.  It’s crazy the things you need to do to when raising kids.

Looking forward to an early fall and getting to do the Summer activities we just couldn’t do because of the heat.  Never thought I’d be welcoming 84 degrees as a cool off (haha!).

Well I hope you’re having a great summer and staying cool.  Thank you for allowing me to be part of your monthly read and staying in touch!   We’ll talk again next month!!

What’s New This Month:
Well, back to work, and it’s super warm outside.  Was hard to believe it was cooler in the southern tip of North America vs. here.  When we took off for home it was 75 degrees and when we landed back in Texas it was a 110 degrees (holy moly!).

Had a great time…if you ever get a chance to ride a zip-line, I highly recommend.  I was weird to see lizards running around as you would normally see birds in the United States.

Speaking of lizards my total body sunburn is starting to peel so I’m part lizard at the moment too (haha!).  Had a blast there!  It’s nice to see how a different country works to appreciate where you are from.  Beautiful place for sure.

My youngest daughter turned 6 yrs old on the 25th and we had a party at the pool. Was way cheaper than the old Chuck-e-Chz. bit and they had so much fun.  I’d do that again….especially on a hot day.  You can check out my pictures on facebook or my blog.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your monthly read and staying in touch! Hope you made time to enjoy your friends and family to celebrate this great Nation’s Birthday!  We’ll talk again next month!!

Shane Siegle surrounded by inspiration

As a musician, I’ve performed a lot of music written by both others and myself. Lately, it’s been more cover tunes than originals, but recently I’ve ben inspired to start penning songs again.

Maybe it’s the change of the season, or the influx or new local music venues, or playing great songs by so many other talented musicians.

It may also be that, in my daily life, I’m surrounded by many inspired vehicles.

As I’m sure you’ve heard in recent years, Toyota has been building what reviewers and consumer guides consider “the most American” cars and trucks on the market. Toyota was inspired to re-imagine its Avalon for the 2013 model year and greatly improved the MPGs, the aerodynamics, and just the overall look and feel, inside and out.

And the new Scion FR-S, inspired by the old Corolla GT-S (also known as the AE86), brings a sporty car to an already edgy line-up.

Turns out I might be inspired by a lot of things.

How about you? What inspires you? Let me know, and I’ll hang onto a $15 iTunes gift card for you here at the dealership. Contact me with your thoughts on cars, music, and more at ssiegle@toyotadm.com, or call (515) 276-4911.
